In this video we will cover how to take topography models you have created in other programs and manipulate them in Sketchup.
This process will give you the ability to iterate quickly through design decisions for the site and actually see the end result of these decisions in physical form. It is important to use this technology to its fullest extent, by bringing the models to a tangible result. While the computer for model visualization is a very useful tool, seeing a model in its physical form is that much more potent when explaining a design.
This video gives you an introduction into the layout and interface of SketchUp. We will show you how to navigate in 3D space and how you customize the layout. We will also cover the essential tools to know when working with SketchUp in an architectural capacity.
page info:
Google SketchUp is a fantastic tool to use when you first begin a design project. The speed with which an architect can generate geometry is unmatched by any other software package on the market.
However, with all that being said, there are almost as many reasons to not use SketchUp as to use it. This is not to say to SketchUp is not a valuable tool. It is just important for a designer to recognize the power and limitations of the tools he or she decides to use.
With all that being said if you use SketchUp to create your "final" models or to generate the geometry for your final renderings. Then you are wrong. You are way wrong. Infact if we find out that any student uses our videos to learn SketchUp, and after our warnings, chooses to use SketchUp incorrectly, we will be forced to take both that student and the SketchUp page down.
We are serious. We had arguments over even doing SketchUp tutorials. Ricky was the only one who survived the fight... I am writing this from the grave.

Is there a specific program that you use as an architect that we dont have on this site? Is there a process that you know of that is superior to one we showed in one of our videos. If yes then drop us a line here at our suggestions page.
