iray rendering
11.05.08
This tutorial shows how to create quick renderings in 3D Studio Max using the newer non biased Autodesk render engine iray. Iray uses many settings, materials, and concepts as Mental Ray, however, because of its unbiased abilities it make iray a much more friendly render engine to use. We will walk through how to set up an iray scene with photometric mental ray lights, material settings, max scrips, and render settings.
mental ray rendering introduction
10.08.30
This tutorial shows how to create quick renderings in 3D Studio Max using the mental ray render engine. We will show you how to create a mental ray day lighting system, mental ray materials and even how to customize the resolution or your renderings based on your final gather settings.
basic rendering
10.02.02
This tutorial shows how to create quick renderings in 3D Studio Max that represent both day and sun light. This video starts with geometry already in the model, and covers the steps to create quick light based renderings, using the 3DS Max default scanline render engine. Expect more tutorials to come covering several processes based on these rendering basics.
combining models
09.11.21
In this tutorial we will show you how to combine models into 3DS Max via file import and position them for an initial rendering. We will walk you through the importing process from AutoCAD; then moving models in Max to position them for a rendering, and lastly the beginnings of the rendering process in 3DS Max. We will show you have to set up cameras, lighting, and the render engine to achieve a very basic "grey mass rendering." We will follow up with this lesson on how to create specific materials and scenes in Max for more comprehensive images.
topo creation
09.11.14
In this video we will cover how to take topography models you have created in other programs and manipulate them. We will use various tools (soft selection, edit poly, loops) to manipulate the site with the intention of 3D printing or milling the end result.
This process will give you the ability to iterate quickly through design decisions for the site and actually see the end result of these decisions in physical form. It is important to use this technology to its fullest extent, by bringing the models to a tangible result. While the computer for model visualization is a very useful tool, seeing a model in its physical form is that much more potent when explaining a design.
